Frequently Asked Questions

At Woof to Purrfection we prioritize the well-being and comfort of your furry companions. Our comprehensive FAQ section addresses common inquiries regarding our animal grooming services in Stamford, scheduling, and the grooming process itself. We aim to provide clarity and insight into our practices, ensuring that every pet owner feels confident and informed when choosing our grooming services. If you have further queries or require additional assistance, our dedicated team is always ready to help.

Do I need an appointment, or do you accept walk-ins?

We do not accept walk in animal grooming at our Stamford dog salon to prevent overbooking. All appointments are pre-scheduled. We can only groom a certain number of dogs a day so don’t let your dog get behind the pack!

Does my dog need to be fully vaccinated?

Yes! Please bring a copy of the vaccine records or email it to us prior to your visit. It is in the best interest for your dog, as well as all the other dogs that come to the shop.

Why do I need to have my dog groomed every 6-8 weeks?

To maintain a proper and manageable coat, it is recommended that you have your dog groomed every 4 – 6 weeks. This is true for non-shedding breeds such as Poodles, Bichons, Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Terriers, etc. The coat on these breeds can easily become painfully matted if not properly maintained at our dog salon in Stamford. Breeds that have short, shedding coats can usually wait 8 -12 weeks between grooming appointments, as long as they are brushed thoroughly at home.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you must cancel an appointment, please try to give us at least 24 hours’ notice. In some cases, pets arriving more than 30 minutes late may need to be rescheduled. No Shows will be noted. After 3 “No Shows” you will be required to pay for your appointment in full prior to your next appointment. If this seems a bit extreme, please understand that we work on an appointment basis. If you miss your appointment, we not only have lost business for the day but also have lost a spot for a customer who may have needed it.

How long does the grooming take?

The typical stay at the salon is 2 to 3 hours, such as for a poodle or maltese cut, here in Stamford. It may be a little longer for long-haired or larger breeds with heavier undercoats. We do our best to get your dog groomed and back home to you in a timely manner.

Can I stay with my pet during the grooming?

As your pooch loves you very much, they will wiggle and move around trying to get close to you which is not safe while we are grooming.  It is best to drop off your pooch at their scheduled appointment time, and then come back when the treatment is finished. We are very happy to show our customers around our dog salon in Stamford so they can see where their pooch will have their treatment.  Also please feel free to give us a call any time during the treatment to find out how your pooch is doing.

When is it best to have my puppy groomed for the first time?

As soon as your puppy has all its vaccinations and can play with other dogs. It’s never too early to get your dog accustomed to grooming with its first puppy cut here in Stamford. Your puppy’s first visit will be short and simple. Probably just a bath, blow-dry, nail clipping, and perhaps a little trimming around the face. We need to start very slow and sweet as to not stress the little pup out and to avoid “turning him off” to the grooming process.

Is my pet too old to be groomed?

All dogs regardless of age benefit from being groomed.  However aged, disabled, and ill pets required specialist treatment during the grooming process.  We have a special place in our hearts at Woof To Purrfection for our aged canine companions and our Stamford dog salon staff have been trained on the individual considerations for special handling of these pooch’s. We are experienced in working with deaf, blind, arthritic dogs, and those with diabetes.  If in any doubts, please consult your vet who will help you to decide whether there would be any adverse risk in grooming your older dog.

My dog is matted but I don’t want him shaved. Why won’t you brush him out?

Because it hurts A LOT! We will try our best to save as much of the coat as possible and use a deep conditioner that works to detangle the hair. If the dogs’ hair is matted, the hair is already damaged and will not brush out to healthy looking or feeling hair. If the dog has a mat or two that is a different story – We will do our best to remove the mat and continue with the haircut.

Will my dog be put in a crate?

Safety is the #1 priority at our Stamford animal grooming salon. As such, we do not let any dogs roam free or cross paths with other dogs for the safety of the pets and staff. While we do use crates, we try our best to minimize the amount of time they will spend in them. One of the ways we do this is by calling or texting you 20 minutes prior to your pet being ready. Ideally, we will be finishing up with your pet as your arriving to pick him or her up.

How often does my dog need a nail trimming and do I need an appointment?

Your pooch’s nails should be trimmed monthly. You do not need a pre-booked appointment, but we do recommend you call on the day before you come to reduce your wait time.

What if I am not happy with the service my dog receives?

If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with the treatment received, please advise within 2 business days so we can do our best to rectify it.  Pet parents’ satisfaction is important to us. We take great pride in the dog salon services offered in Stamford and want pooch’s parents to as well.
